26 Apr 2012
Penn states that he will continue to work for the people of Haiti.
Sean Penn has been presented with a special award at a gathering of Nobel Peace Prize laureates for his efforts in Haiti after it was struck by an earthquake in 2010. The star of Milkand The Tree of Life received the award at the 2012 Peace Summit Award in Chicago during a three-day summit. Penn gave an emotional speech while accepting his award which described the courage of dignity of the people living there.
The actor is currently the chief executive of the J/P Haitian Relief Organisation and is an ambassador-at-large for President Michel Martelly. Penn is the first non-Haitian to receive this designation. He has committed to Haiti and spends half his time there since travelling to help in the aftermath of the earthquake in 2010.
