Colombia Pictures and Marvel Studios recently released a new Super Preview for what is allegedly the summer’s most anticipated film, The Amazing Spider Man.
Apparently, Super Preview is a grandiose new term for ‘the trailer you saw last week plus about a minute of fresh footage.’
All things considered, Super Preview is less of a mouthful.
That first minute reveals a lot about the film’s tone however. Notably, the film’s primary antagonist, the Lizard, uses his claws to claw at people with massive claws and yet fails to but one drop of blood.
Also, the shot of young Mr Parker convincing the formerly helpless child to don his heroic headwear and help himself is something new to not only the franchise, but to the wider Superhero mythos. Rarely are endangered citizens represented as wilful humans that can and will, with a little encouragement, fight to save their own life.
Let’s hope director Marc Web and co have more tricks up their sleeves, beyond web-slingers, come July 3rd...
