Alan Partridge is coming

26 Jun 2012
Feature debut announced
We’ve just got word that the movie event to end all movie events will be hitting cinemas on the 13th of August 2013.
Clearly, we’re talking about the Alan Partridge movie – an epic of such brilliance that it’s announcement arrived with the a press release including comments from Partridge himself.“I'm simultaneously gladdened and pleased to see a British film being co-funded by the French dudes at StudioCanal. This is without doubt the greatest Anglo-French co-operation since the Normandy landings. This time, the heroes aren't Allied servicemen - they're motion picture financiers, who are equally brave.
I'd also like to add that 'canal' - or, in English, 'canal' - is a transportation system close to my heart. In the late 18th century, this new method of logistics halved the price of coal in many English cities. If StudioCanal’s investment can achieve even a fraction of that, I will be delighted.”
The theatrical rights to the film have indeed been snapped up by StudioCanal, with the support of the BFI and BBC Films and the film is set to go into production on the 7th of January 2013.Alan Partridge first appeared on the BBC Radio 4 programme On the Hour in 1991 and went on to carve out a varied career as a radio and TV host. The character is played by Steve Coogan, who is also on board for the film and shares writing credits with Peter Baynham, Armando Iannucci and Neil and Rob Gibbons. The director is Declan Lowney.
The official synopsis goes like this:Alan Partridge has had many ups and downs in his life. National televisionbroadcaster. Responsible for killing a guest on live TV. Local radiobroadcaster. A nervous breakdown in Dundee. His self-published book,'Bouncing Back', subsequently remaindered and pulped.
THE ALAN PARTRIDGE MOVIE portrays the events of the greatestlow-to-high-ebb spectrum in his life to date – specifically how he tries tosalvage his public career while negotiating a potentially violent turn of events at North Norfolk Digital Radio.Honestly, I don’t get the fascination with Partridge but if you do, you’ll no doubt be breathlessly anticipating the arrival of the film in cinemas on the 13th of August 2013.
