Shoots you in the monitor
Some 17 years ago, Sylvester Stallone took to the screen as famed 2000 AD character Judge Dredd. It was crap. In 2012, we’re preparing for an all new vision of the character, and this time it stands half a chance of being good.Dredd 3D (of course), comes to screens from director Pete Travis, who is best known for 2008s VantagePoint. And he also worked on TV series ColdFeet, just so you know. The film stars Kiwi actor Karl Urban in the lead role, who will steadfastly wear the famed helmet of the character, meaning you should expect some excellent chin acting.
The story this time focuses on a future ravaged Earth, where the survivors huddle together in large scale megacities, policed by forces who fight crime by being Judge, Jury and Executioner. Judge Dredd (Urban) is tasked with taking out a drug trafficking outfit which peddles a new substance that slows the perception of the user.
That last snippet is seen in full effect in the visually stunning trailer which debuted recently.
Since it was posted, the internet has been abuzz with comparisons to the masterfully action packed The Raid. Apparently on the basis that it happens in a building…Travis’ action credentials may be in doubt but there’s some serious mileage in the visuals on display and everyone loves a little slo-motion, and there’s evidence of a lot on show here. You even get to see head villainess Lena Headey have a slo-mo bath. Which must satisfy the most niche of desires.Dredd shot in 3D and is set for release on the 7th of September. And the studio released a brand new motion poster which will shoot you. Because that’s fun.
