Karl Urban gives the world an exclusive first lookLast week, Karl Urban promised he’d unveil an excluisive first look at footage from the upcoming Star Trek 2 and, true to his Kiwi word, he has.
Watch the stunning first look below.
Do you know what that was? That was almost four minutes of Karl Urban surfing. What a jape!
If you do manage to stick it out past the 3:30 mark, you will find a bit of a hidden extra – a few scant seconds of director JJ Abrams on a green screen stage with some special effects dudes. Abrams is sporting his trademark cap and is holding a reflective sphere – commonly used to provide reference material when you’re inserting a 3D object into live action. the same goes for the colour test patter and matte globe on either side of the filmmaker.
There’s a clapper board in evidence as well, though it doesn’t list the title as Trek 2, which makes us think this is purely an SFX shot. Either way, it’s not exactly the most interesting footage you could hope for but it is the first to be released from the film and something of a bizarre joke from the actor.
The mostly untitled Star Trek sequel has completed principal photography and is entering a lengthy pre-production phase. It also stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Zachary Quinto, John Cho and newcomers Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve. It hits cinemas in May 2013.
