Is there anything he can't do!?You may have noticed that we have something of a man crush for Ryan Gosling around these parts – something which became even more concrete after the rampantly awesome Drive last year.
Given his public profile and all-round dreaminess, we were always confident that Gosling was capable of damn near anything and he’s out to prove that with word that he’s gone and written a movie and is set to direct it in the near future.
The main man is just back from Thailand where he was shooting Nicolas Winding Refn’sOnly God Forgives but clearly hasn’t been resting on his laurels. How to Catch a Monster is set to star his Drive buddy Christina Hendricks and is up for bidding at the Toronto International Film Festival. And rather than the typical low key drama you expect from a first timer, the pitch is a little more ambitious:“How to Catch a Monster weaves elements of fantasy noir, and suspense into a modern day fairytale. Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.”
Sounds buggering awesome, doesn’t it? We’re getting a whiff of the crazed urban fairytale ambience of Wayne Kramer’s underrated 2006 effort Running Scared off it – which can only be a good thing. No further word on casting yet, or even an inkling if Gosling himself will appear in the film, but we’ll update you on as soon as there’s more news.
Oh and here's a trailer for Running Scared - why didn't y'all go see it?!
