Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters first Trailer

Shotguns and sorcery in this action-packed first look for the oft delayed film starring Jeremy Renner
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters finally gets a theatrical trailer, check it out below. We’ve previously reported on Hansel and Gretel a couple of times, and with good reason – it’s had a fairly tortured journey to the big screen. Originally shot in early 2011 aimed at a March 2012 release, the film saw a massive delay into January 2013. No official reason has been given, though rumours of disastrous early test screenings and frantic reshoots have circulated, as they always do in these situations. There’s also the distinct possibility that studio Paramount have delayed the release to give star Jeremy Renner some time to capture the public’s attention – with massive flicks like The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy in 2012. That’s not necessarily the smartest move – his role was limited in Joss Whedon’s opus and Bourne hardly set the box office afire. On directing duties is Tommy Wirkola, who did great work on Norwegian horror movie Dead Snow – the one with the zombie Nazis. He’s making his English language debut and has been telling anyone who will listen about his dark vision for Hansel and Gretel – R-rated witchcraft, violent magic-murderers and some medieval shotgun weapons. Based on the story by the Brothers Grimm, this movie version picks up 15 years after the siblings escape from the clutches of that evil witch in violent fashion as they ply their trade separating other supernatural sorts from their noggins.Renner plays Hansel and his Gretel is played by Gemma Arterton, hardly the most electrifying performer in action titles, as you can tell from Clash of the Titans and Prince of Persia. You’ll also find Famke Janssen and Peter Stormare in the cast – it’s like we’re back in the early 2000s again. Check out the trailer below:
So far it’s looking a little dull and haphazard but we’ll have to wait for a red band clip to get a proper idea of the tone Wirkola is going for.Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters will be in cinemas in the States from the 11th of January, making its way across the pond for a March 15th debut in Ireland and the UK.
