Spanish stars honoured on Street of Stars

28 Jul 2011
Celebrating 25 years in style.
The Spanish Film Academy is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with the inauguration of a Walk of Fame in Madrid. The walkway, named the Street Of Stars (La Calle De Las Estrellas), features 25 honourees adorned on sidewalk plaques. Among those honoured are 16 actors and 9 nine directors. The academy plans to add one or two additional plaques each year.

Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Pedro Almodovar and Alejandro Amenabar were four of the chosen to be honoured in this way. This is the second star for Cruz this year, as in April she became the first Spanish actress to receive a star in Hollywood. The Street of Stars is on Calle Martín de los Heros, the central Madrid street that is home to several cinemas. The Street of Stars resembles its Hollywood counterpart. The granite, marble and steel plaques feature a large star and the celebrity's name.
