Superb

One of the most intriguing, thought provoking and downright unusual films you're ever likely to see, A Scanner Darkly is an absolute must see. It will take you a while to get in to so please ignore the silly people who "did not get" it or turned off half way through, the amazing style of animation over fantastic performances from this great cast adds to the sense of seeing something unique. Robert Downey Jr as usual shines but Keanu and Woody Harrelson are also superb. Terrific film. 9 out of 10

better than fear and loathing (kinda, in a way)

Amazing movie, flat-out brilliant. The animation over film is used to great effect, making the characters paranoia, confusion and disconnection from reality very real. As a "drug culture" movie it is unparalleled, mostly in its ability to lead the viewer through the breakdown of a characters sense of self due to prolonged abuse of the psychoactive "substance D", where you really feel bits of your own mind melting away in sympathy. Also quite funny in parts, though a fairly dark humour.

'A Scanner Darkly' pretty good.

If you Philip K Dick stuff, you'll like this movie. The story and characters are a bit crazy, but it is dealing with a drug situation so it suits it.
The animation is excellent and I loved trying to figure who the actors were doing the voices.
The ending is very good, worth watching the whole film for. Makes you think afterwards.
Unsettling

I actually felt kinda miserable and depressed after watching this. An original script, supported by a decent cast - that didn't need the unique cartoon/graphic style. All that did was take away from the overall story. It would've been more enjoyable as a straight up shooting, and save the special effects for another day.
Truly original

I found this to be a highly interesting affair altogether. A good story about the effects of drugs and the people who push them, the animation only adds to the show. Good characters, a stunning visual style and a plot to pay attention to made this a very worthwhile effort I felt.
