Enough to recognise here as classic Herzog. The main contributor here is the scenery, lovingly shot, reminiscent of many of his later documentaries. The opening scene is incredible, showing amazing depth of field and setting the scene for the struggle against the elements which is the rest of the film. The acting, apart from Herr Kinski, is non existent. Maybe this is in keeping with its documentary feel? My God! This could be clever, real clever! Kinski, on the other hand, turns out a performance that can only be described as Amazonian. The swagger is worth the rental alone. All in all, worth a watch, however, like the characters, you will not find El Dorado here.
