Hilarious - intentional?

Totally over the top - Romola Garai completely overacts and the story is ludicrous but it looks gorgeous and if you want some frothy silliness and don't take it too seriously you could actually enjoy it. In parts it is quite funny - Angel is like Scarlett O'Hara times twenty. I don't think anyone making this took the story very seriously - well, I hope not. Story based on an Elizabeth Taylor novel so if that's your thing...... Or just watch it and laugh. Michael Fassbender is also there so worth

Strange Angel!

Although this has really great actors, locations and sets it was directed by a Frenchman in that art-house way which just leaves me pretty cold. It got better towards the end and I can see it's supposed to be a black comedy, however I felt very little for the anti-heroine at all. It would be better after a second viewing. The great thing about it was the location work at Tyntesfield in the UK, a National Trust Victorian property rescued from decay, even Madona thought about buying it!

Looks beautiful, shame about the acting!

I had high hopes for this as I have loved Francois Ozon's other films but this is a mess. The storyline is jumpy, Romola Garai overacts horribly and Michael Fassbender seems to be trying to channel the dastardly fiance from Titanic.
On the positive side it looks gorgeous; great costumes and sets all in lush, rich, Edwardian colours.

A precocious young writer becomes famous by penning 'romances' and escapes her poor background.
I could not find one thing to like about this film, the dialogue, sets, acting. Managed to watch till the end to see if it was meant to be in some way ironic, but alas, it was not to be.
Different!!

Dont know what to make of this film. The main character makes her dreams come true but is so used to living in the dream that when reality hits she cant deal with it.
