Another Year - Mike Leigh
Marika from Tipperary, 24 Jan 2013
As with all Leigh's films, beautifully acted by a superb cast who make their characters utterly believable. However, those characters' lives are invariably fraught with neurosis and sorrow. Apart from the (invariably happy)couples, the singles are lost, agonisingly lonely and needy. If you happen to be single, this film won't leave you a shred of optimism or self-esteem, which is an unfortunate spin-off of an otherwise very fine movie.
A worthy effort

This is a well made and well acted film in which very little happens. A Mike Leigh movie so expect it to be slow and heavy with no happy ending (or really no ending at all)... but worth a watch none the less.

A story of nothing happening with boring, mundane people with bad faces, bad hair, bad speech and bad manners. Why would you want to see them on screen? Just pop into Tesco's in UK and see them in person!

This got a lot of hype, and has a very good cast. But although I'm glad I've seen it, and enjoyed it enough while watching it, I probably wouldn't rush to watch it again. Good characters in it, though.
