Quirky Drama

Really enjoyable film, based around a father-son relationship supported by a beautiful french girl and adorable dog. Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer give subtle performances and Melanie Laurent is a typical cool French girl. The story is told is flashback and the story threads back from the father's declining health and the emerging relationship between the son and a French actress. The little dog acts as a sounding board for all drama in the movie and this works well. Very good film...
Not as good as the trailer

I liked the slow pace of this but it drove my husband mad. The trailer is really quirky and while the film is, it is too serious to be really off-beat. The dog is cool. The story moves very slowly but there is a nice atmosphere that makes it enjoyable.

I saw this in the cinema. Nothing happens! As dull a film as could be imagined, despite strong actors and lovely filming, as far as I can remember from the stupour of boredom.
Only fair

A bit pretentious at times. This was trying to be a french art-house movie that didn't really quiet get there it but nevertheless I enjoyed it. There were a couple of laughs.
Too self regarding

I switched this off after half an hour. I'm sure it's great. I'm sure it's worthy but I didn't care about any of the characters and in the end I just gave up on it.
