Best Modern War Film
Caroline from Laois, 23 Apr 2008
Loved it to bits and then some. Fantastic cinematography and just honest and gritty depiction of an horrific true story. Mental how such a simple mission could go so wrong for such a small reason. Pips never listen to men on the ground and it's amazing this story ever got told. I don't usually cry at war films but I just sat and cried for parts of this. If you aren't moved by it you didn't 'get it'. Best modern war film by a mile. It will be a classic in time. Buy it!

Black Hawk Down
James from Limerick, 25 Nov 2008
Compelling and convincing telling of a real incident in Mogadishu, Somalia, during Clinton's watch.
In an attempt to extract and interrogate a local warlord, a US Cavalry Black Hawk helicopter is shot down in the heart of the city's bandit district. This film largely deals with the attempts to get to the survivors and extract them.
Fast moving and gritty, this show-cases Scott's skill as a director of action sequences, which he never lost since his debut (The Duallists).

Fantastic!

One of my favourite action flicks, Scott adeptly directs the story of the 100 odd US Special Forces dropped into the seething chaotic mess that was Mogadishu in 1993. Fantastic action sequences and a filming style econd to none, this is a classic actioner and all the more rewarding due to the factual base. One of those flicks where repeat viewings don't detract from the proceedings. A winner.
