4 out of 10 Coco
Trevor from Kilkenny, 20 Jan 2010
Directed by Anne Fontaine, this is a beautiful film and perfectly cast to portray the least told, true rags to riches story of the last century. Audrey Tautou is the focal point in every frame and delivers quality and sparkle. She has the very look of a slapped orphan herself which makes her both stingingly sad to watch in the early moments of the film and heart stoppingly beautiful all the way through. Fontaine moves her camera through Paris streets and glittering events as the eyes of Coco and

1 out of 10 Clothes horse

The film depicts Coco Chanels early life up to the start of her career. It does show the humble beginnings and Audrey Tautou is a real star in the role. However, although the title is in English, the movie is French with subtitles. Overall the story does seem a bit disjointed. There is no real explanation why she had the success she did, apart from a need to be different.

3.5 out of 10 Stylish
Conor from Louth, 03 Jan 2011
Firstly let me just get it off my chest that I absolutely hate and abhor the fashion industry. All it promotes is anorexia and how to be a diva/bitch. Anyway thats a rant for another time and place. So it was pleasant to watch a movie with a more interesting slant on such a topic. It is an elegant and stylish effort with Audrey Tautou as ever shining in the lead role.

3.5 out of 10 Fascinating Bio
Lyn from Cork, 15 Aug 2010
This was a really interesting and captivating film. My one quibble would be the very abrupt ending which just felt like a total afterthought rather than a natural progresson. This put Coco's independence and genius into perspective. Well worth a watch.

4.5 out of 10 Great acting and story !
Margaret from Dublin, 12 Feb 2011
Audrey Tautou shines in this tale of the life of Coco Chanel. You forget the subtitles and just enjoy learning about her life. This movie gives you a real insight into the woman behind the brand. Very enjoyable and well worth a watch.

What's it about....
A little girl who is sent with her sister to an orphanage in the heart of France, who waits in vain every Sunday for her father to come for her… A cabaret performer with a weak voice who sings to an audience of drunken soldiers… A humble seamstress, who stitches hems at the back of a provincial tailor‘s shop… A young, skinny courtesan, to whom protector Etienne Balsan offers a safe haven, amongst the idle and decadent… A woman in love who knows she will never be anyone‘s...
