4 out of 10 Definition of Factotum :
Gary from Cork, 19 May 2009
"A factotum is a general servant or a person having many diverse activities or responsibilities." Published in 1975 by Charles Bukowski and the second novel both from Bukowski and revolving around one of the original anti-heroes, Henry Chinaski. The adaptation of a book into a movie is one of the trickiest, landmine filled projects a director can undertake as usually deciding what scenes/characters should be taken out/left in takes over from actually creating a new piece of art. For me

4 out of 10 a fine adaptation of Bukowski
john from Meath, 03 Jul 2007
Matt Dillon is in fine form as Bukowski, and the director does a fine job of capturing the essence of the writer. Even if you havnt read the book, there is alot to enjoy here. The character comedy is spot on. Give it a rent if you want something a bit laid back and non taxing.

3.5 out of 10 Entertaining
Ciaran from Dublin, 17 May 2007
Good entertaining fare with Matt Dillon playing the total bum lead role. He moves about from job to job lasting days, hours or minutes in them due to complete ineptitude and laziness. And he doesn't care. Funny in parts and worthy of the rent.

3.5 out of 10 Oddly poetic
Erik from Louth, 07 Dec 2008
A great movie which I'll never watch again! I can only really see those who like Bukowski's work as truely enjoying this film otherwise its a little unsatisfying. Best watched alone.

What's it about....
Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Charles Bukowski. The story of a man living on the edge, of a writer who is willing to risk everything to make sure that his life is his poetry. 'Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must live'. Henry Chinaski (read Charles Bukowski) works in factories and warehouses to support what he really wants to do: drink, bet on the horses, take up with women as rootless as he is and, above all, write stories that...
