1.5 out of 10 Suitable for Tweenies only!

This movie was what I expected. Middle of the road musical set in sixties segregated America, but dontcha know this lil' movie will enlighten us all and uplift us, blah blah blah. Ok to pass the time. Christopher Walker is watchable in anything, thankfully. Michelle Pfeiffer is good, and John Travolta is ok but creepy with the prosthetic face that's meant to convince us he's a lady. My twelve year old enjoyed it, if that helps. My opinion: uninspired.

5 out of 10 Hairspray | Brilliant

Unlike the original Hairspray, this one has what you might call an all-star cast. And unlike the leaden screen version of the musical The Producers, this Hairspray really is a lot of fun; colourful, sassy, and brisk. Hairspray earns knockout status for its humour, heart and high spirits. The film is a plus-size bundle of fun.A fan of musicals? You will love this; this could be the Grease of our time, although this time John Travolta wears a dress.

4 out of 10 Heartwarming

A really fun film, all the actors are excellent, the music is middle-of-the-road, but well played & performed. The story drags a little in the middle, when they try to tackle racial tension and equality for women, themes like this don't fit in a feel-good film. I watched the ending loads of times and was humming the song for days.

Okay, it's not Mamma Mia, but this movie is a must-have for your collection. A really feel-good film, with people back in the 50's bridging the 'colour' divide. It will make you laugh and smile and jump out of your seats for a while. If you ever feel down, this is the movie for you. Enjoy!

3 out of 10 thumbs up

Watched this with my husband, neither of us normally likes musicals. This one was good, though, and we both enjoyed it. A bit cheesy, a bit dated but the characters were well cast. Stars of the show were John Travolta and Christopher Walken. I'd watch it again just for the two of them. :)

What's it about....
It's 1962 and change is in the air in Baltimore. Tracy Turnblad, a girl with big hair and big dreams, has only one passion in life - to dance on The Corny Collins Show. When her chance arrives, she grooves her way into instant stardom and the eyes of teen dream Link Larkin (Zac Efron). But with the program's scheming stage manager (Michelle Pfeiffer) against her, trend-setting Tracy will need the help of her best friend Penny (Amanda Bynes), her big-hearted mother (John Travolta)...
