Catch me if you Brokeback with Dick and Jane

This could have been a much better film but seemed to swing between comedy and drama too much. Carrey and McGregor were mis-cast for this reason. Carrey being very good during the comedy bits but lost during the drama. McGregor being the opposite. Its like a mash-up between Brokeback Mountain, Catch me if you Can and Fun with Dick and Jane. Each of which is a very good film but not so good when combined. Could have cut out alot and produced a good fast paced film. What was director trying to achieve? Who knows.

Can the truth be this far fetched?

It's only in the last few scenes that you realise the enormity of this true story. Up until then it is a light hearted comedy where no-one really gets hurt and all of the characters have good hearts and the best of intentions. But in the end I was left feeling a bit uneasy at the lengths that the main character went to and the depth of his disturbed nature. A bit surprised when this came along, was thinking it might be about the Tobacco giant.... Instead, we see Jim Carey and Ewan MacGregor fairly convincing in roles that we perhaps not expect to see them in. An engaging film that ticks along nicely. Was left fairly dumbstruck at the end though when we learn that the principle character is currently just 7 years into a 144yr sentence and 23hr hour a day lockdown for what is essentially fraud. A lot of bankers in today's climate can count themselves

I LOVED this film. It's an incredible true story about love, stubborness and sheer balls, and it made me laugh and cry at the same time. Steven Russell, the man who's story the film is based on, is an absolute legend.
RENT IT!!!! You will not be disappointed.
