3 out of 10 Something Missing
Maire from Dublin, 14 Jul 2008
In The Valley of Elah was a slow moving and intense film about the disappearance of a young soldier after returning from Iraq. Really, the film is about what war does to young men and in particular the Iraq war. Susan Sarandon makes a somewhat brief appearance as the mother of the missing young man and makes a huge impact nonetheless. Tommy Lee Jones, as the craggy, stoic father and ex military man himself, carries the film with his passion about finding out what really happened.

4 out of 10 Timely
Ciaran from Dublin, 07 Jul 2008
A timely and poignant view of the effects of war on America's youth. And old veteran goes in search of his son who is MIA days after returning from Iraq and it becomes more and more clear how messed up the experience was and has made him and his fellow soldiers. Jones is excellent in the lead role and Theron is strong as the local cop who wants to do more than just get paid and go home. Can certainly recommend this to all.

5 out of 10 valley of Elah
Helen from Wexford, 15 Jun 2008
Very very good film!!! I highly rate this film for acting, story line and being so relevant to todays war against terror. We see the other side - the human side and the effects of war on family life in this film. It had me captivated for every minute being so true to life as it is now. ( for the Americans). Heartbreaking and yet so understandably patriotic. Watch this movie.

3.5 out of 10 Suprisingly good
Colin from Tipperary, 05 Jun 2008
I had read nothing and knew nothing about this film before renting it but I thought it was really good. Great performance from Tommy Lee Jones in particular. An interesting angle on the Iraq war and its impact on America's soliders. As a thriller there were no real twists in the tale but still engaging. Worth a watch.
