John Carter (2012)

2.5 out of 10 Disappointing but entertaining enough
Niall from Cork, 07 Sep 2012
I read the books before watching this. The movie leaves out a lot of the story but that is not surprising considering the detail in the books. Having seen all the negative publicity about the apparent losses Disney took on this I wasn't expecting much. Still, it was an entertaining distraction from reality. At the end I thought, fair enough, it was worth a watch. Just about.

3 out of 10 Not bad, good in ways, not great
Donal from Cork, 10 Oct 2014
For the first half, this is a very enjoyable film, with good action, effects, and humour. But after a while the lack of acting direction, and plot development, began to dominate. Still a pleasant watch, with good portrayal of an alien world (the green lads anyway), but for such a huge budget film they could have spent a few bob on making it far better than it was.

0.5 out of 10 Clunky, boring, badly acted, badly scripted
Jason from Meath, 10 Jul 2012
I had low expectations for this to begin with, but was curious to see what $350m bought you these days. Very little apparently. I found the plot / script clunky and inconsistent, the CGI is no more believable than it was in Star Wars Episode 1, and ultimately it is just an incredibly tedious movie, especially as it comes in at over 2 hours.

4 out of 10 Trip to Mars
Attila from Tipperary, 08 Aug 2012
Although I did not expect much from this movie, I quite enjoyed it. It is spectacular, the characters are very likable (stating this despite the fact that I have an unexplainable dislike towards Taylor Kitsch - sorry), and the story is gripping. If you like sci-fi and/or fantasy, rent this movie and enjoy your trip to Mars.
