1 out of 10 sometimes good but overall boring
Adriano from Dublin, 07 May 2007
good acting doesn't always mean good movie & this is a perfect example of that. Very slow moving, not really a sign of a plot in sight & the end is just like all those movies that end suddenly & i could not stop but say badly. The pregnant girl had an oscar nomination well deserved i suppose & the rest of this just gives us an insight of how horrible & weird people are in middle america. Best thing to do is to give this a miss really & do not waist your time unless there's nothing else better 2c

3.5 out of 10 Good
Ciaran from Dublin, 09 May 2007
For anyone who dreads meeting the in-laws, this is for you. The artsy wife from NY heads south to meet the family of her country husband and enters a world very different to what she is used to. Deep rooted issues arise to complicate matters and also the fact that she is also in the country to court an old artist into allowing her to display his work also adds to the complexities. Good decent drama.

1 out of 10 This is so not a comedy
Aisling from Dublin, 11 Sep 2009
I don't have a clue what this film was about. Embeth Davidtz is annoying in general and she doesn't seem to fit in this movie. Amy Adams is so watchable as usual so if you like her you'll love this film, unfortunately you'll have to actually watch the film. This film is far from thought-provoking...waste of time, zzzzzz

3.5 out of 10 junebug
colette from Wicklow, 09 Jul 2007
family dynamic when new family member appears on the scene...you wonder if theyre like this all the time or is it just because shes there that they appear so dysfunctional? and who is responsible for the bump? beautifully done and kept me wondering what was going to happen next...

4.5 out of 10 Great, but please don't watch it!
Dawn from Dublin, 08 Jul 2007
I loved this movie. The performances were all amazing and you really care about everyone in the film. However, as an American I have to ask you not to see it so you won't think these types of people really exist!

What's it about....
This slow-burning, acutely observed comedy of manners concerns a dealer in outsider art who threatens the equilibrium of her middle-class in-laws in North Carolina. Madeleine (Embeth Davidtz, Schindler's List) is a go-getting art gallery owner from Chicago, recently married to George (Alessandro Nivola, Goal!), a near-perfect Southern beau. When Madeleine needs to close a deal with a reclusive North Carolina artist, George introduces her to his family: prickly mother Peg...
