4.5 out of 10 Provocative French cinema
Una from Cork, 04 Jun 2009
Black and white, French with subtitles, hip hop soundtrack, gritty concrete banlieue scenery. Vincent Cassel is amazing as are the other actors - such realistic performances. Excellent cinematography making great use of the black and white film. A wonderful insight into the other side of Paris, a long way from the small dogs on laps at cafe tables.

4.5 out of 10 Must see!
dave from Laois, 22 Dec 2008
Excellent movie. Standout scenes include, hip hop dj putting speakers out the window of his appartment and the sound of his remix of edith piafs "no regrets" wafting into the paris tenements air...the old mans story about "the good shit".Highly recommended

2.5 out of 10 Thug Life!!
Michael from Dublin, 30 Mar 2010
Its a hard knock life for a young wannabe gangster Vincent Cassell and his two friends who are full of hate and anger because all they are surrrounded by is drugs, guns and death. Nicely shot in black and white. Good film but lost my attenetion at times.

4.5 out of 10 Strong stuff
Philip from Dublin, 25 Jul 2010
A classic from the day it was released this is fantastic stuff - a tough, riveting portrayal of a day in the life of a group of kids from the outer French suburbs. Its tough, funny, exciting and moving. Essential stuff.

What's it about....
La Haine is packed with sharp street humour, intense action and brutally brilliant camera work. Police viciously beat a 16-year-old housing estate kid they are questioning, leaving him almost dead. Responding to violence, teenagers from the estate turn their home into a 24 hour war zone. Among the people blinded by hate are Said, Vinz and Hubert, youths who survive on petty crime and dealing dope. In the intensely volatile environment, the teenagers find a chrome-plated Smith...
