Excellent

A heart-warming story of a man who creates a fictional story of a woman and his intimate relationship with her in order to cope with his inability to relate to people socially and to women romantically. The local doctor assures that the best way to deal with his percieved 'mental illlness' is just to let it play out. When the whole town kindly agrees to play along they are able to connect to him like never before and get an insight into the soul of this young man as he bares it out to his imaginary girlfriend in public. A beautiful depiction of how when there is an imbalnce in the body, mind or soul, that the intelligence of the psyche will always bring healing if allowed to just be.

enjoyed it

Can't fault this and I dare anyone to say they didnt enjoy it! OK, silly dare as there's always one (and tastes do differ) but this is a most enjoyable and original movie about a man who cannot connect with people so he buys in a partner. The townspeople's reaction to Lars when he starts hanging out with his 'anatomically correct' doll is uplifting and the whole experience is a positive one. Really enjoyed it.
Warm and touching

From the ad I expected this to be a laugh out loud comedy verging on the slapstick. How wrong was I? It did have it's funny moments but really this is a touching drama about people struggling to cope with lonliness.
This is a really good "nice" film. Gosling is excellent as are all of the townsfolk who go way beyond the call of duty to welcome "Bianca" into their community.
Worth a watch

This is an interesting, if rather odd, film. The main character is mentally ill due to his repression of childhood issues. This leads to a bizarre scenario where he starts dating a blow up doll! The acting is excellent with a sedate storytelling pace. Not a mind blowing film but it is different and it pulls it off well.
Great film, not what you think

Didn't know what to expect from this film, but it was definitely not what I expected! Yes, it is a film about a man and a pretend woman. But it's really more about what happens when family, friends and community come together to do their best to help someone who is going through a tough time. A great film.
