A vision to look at

This is a treat to look at but I have to say I felt it was a little hollow. However, I think you'll enjoy it and the musical numbers are really good. It has a great cast and all the women were brilliant but I felt Daniel Day-Louis was a little out of his depth and the story is a bit hackneyed in this day and age. The main problem is that it’s not original. It has nothing of the freshness of Chicago or the truth of “All that Jazz” as a stage show I think you would be blown away by the glamour
Not as bad as I expected

I expected this to be really awful and I was very pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed it a lot. Yes, it's a musical with some iffy songs and and reminds me of All that Jazz. Yes, the story is all over the place. That aside the cast are superb and look like they are having fun. The trouble for Lewis is we expect a fantastic film every time. Not here, but if you remember that this is a musical, that songs often appear for no good reason and can ignore the very slight story then this is good fun.

This movie is for fans of old-fashioned, showy musicals who love gorgeous costumes and over the top performances. Daniel Day Lewis was very good as the famous italian director and he even sings! In fact, all the performances were terrific and the singing seemed believable. The sets and costumes were beautiful and made the movie very glamorous to watch. I was pleasantly surprised how enjoyable the movie was.

If you're a Fellini fan, or a fan of anything clever and inventive, stay well away from this. An utter waste of a fab cast and expensive sets and production values. While the talented performers tried their best, the musical numbers were utterly unoriginal and downright boring - Bob Fosse-esque without the sizzle. Turned it off after 30 minutes. Very disappointing!!

A dissapointing film considering its pedagree. I felt it was somewhat self indulgent and although the performances were excelent the characters, as written, were very mannered and unbelievable. I had looked forward to seeing it, but felt it lacked any real substance.
