2.5 out of 10 Disappointing movie from Depp
Linda from Cork, 11 Aug 2010
I was disappointed with this movie. Johnny Depp is normally great in all his movies but he seemed off form in this and the storyline is quite weak. Marion Cottillard gives a good performance but the movie limps along, the storyline failed to pique my interest personally. The basic premise is that Depp's character is famous bank robber John Dilinger who falls in love with Marion Cottillard's character and he has to go on the run with her to avoid imprisonment and the story follows the cops as

2 out of 10 Poor effort.
Alan from Dublin, 05 Jul 2010
After reading and enjoying the book, I looked forward to Jonny Depp's portrayal of Dillinger. But what a let down, Depp looked the part but I dont think he really portrayed the character very well. As always with Mann, it looks good and has the right 30's era feel but just didn't grip me like I thought it would.

2 out of 10 Michael Mann..... how does he do it
Edward from Dublin, 23 May 2012
How does he take a genuinely fascinating story and make it dull?! You would think, with a character like Dillinger, that there would be no way to make a dull film, but he did it, AGAIN. I was going to give it 3, but... Marion Cotillard..... hmmmmmm

4.5 out of 10 Great film.
Seamus from Monaghan, 02 Apr 2011
You know it's a good story when you get up from the film and look up the facts on google. It's very well told and very well acted and all in all a great film. If it was fiction it would be good but as it's fact it's great.

0.5 out of 10 nothing new
Stiofan from Clare, 26 Jan 2010
not really a gripping story and pretty predictable story line. Maybe because it is based on a true story. But the old style: shot him 20 times before they drop dead and still whisper last words is kind of out of date.

What's it about....
Based on author Bryan Burrough's ambitious tome 'Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-43', director Michael Mann (HEAT, LAST OF THE MOHICANS) has crafted a sprawling historical crime drama that follows the efforts of top FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale - BATMAN BEGINS, AMERICAN PSYCHO) in capturing notorious bank robber John Dillinger. A folk hero to the American public thanks to his penchant for robbing the banks that many...
