Salmon Fishing In The Yemen (2011)

3.5 out of 10 Unlikely feel good movie
A member from Dublin, 25 Sep 2012
Despite its eyebrow raising title this is a good light comedy. The cynical Ewan McGreggor is tasked by the lovely Emily Blunt to construct a salmon fishery in the Yemen. This is funded ( of course ) by a rich fishing mad sheik. The film clips along with some sharp banter and skullduggery thrown in. Emily provides the love interest with a twist in the end. Not the worst way to spend saturday night in.

4 out of 10 Endearing

Really enjoyed this film. Wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea as the story is quite slow going and of course it's about fish! However, the story is very genuine. The depth and growth of the characters both individually and how they react together is fantastic - excellant acting all round. A very easy to watch film that is humorous, compelling and endearing.

Luckily everything about this film, the actors, the scenery the performances etc are likeble because ultimately it's a pretty lightweight film that isn't about very much.

Look, it's not going to rock and boats but it was enjoyable enough and a sweet story. Good acting and gripping enough to keep you interested.
