Erotic yet poignant
Anne from Dublin, 14 Mar 2009
Gylenhaal and Spader are excellent in this story of a self-harming woman who takes a job as a secretary and finds herself working for a sexually masterful boss. At times funny and touching, yet with a powerful eroticism, this film will remain in your thoughts for days afterwards.

Great show!Intoxicating performances from spader and gyllenhall. The kind of movie that rewards repeat viewings. Not your sometimes flimsy and psuedo cool american indie movie, characters evolve in a fascinating way and the chemistry between the leads burns bright.
I loved this film
Aisling from Dublin, 07 Oct 2007
This is an excellent film. Maggie Gyllenhaal is perfect the the role of Lee. And I quite like James Spader although a lot of people don't. This turns out to be a beautiful but unusual lovestory about two social outcasts who may just be soulmates...
well worth a look

This is a very thoughtful, funny and human take on D/S relationships, and relationships in general. Gyllenhaal is a revelation in the title role and it's largely thanks to her that the film succeeds.
rather dull

Didn't think much of this at all - I found it very boring - a couple of quirky moments, but they don't make up for the dullness of the rest of it.
