Harsh reality
Ciaran from Dublin, 31 Mar 2008
Gyllenhaal completely occupies then lead role in this often grim look at the life of a released prisoner who tries to get to know her estranged young daughter. Her superb acting cannot disguise the fact that the movie is made hard to like because the lead character is mostly unlikeable. She has few social skills and seems to just be a walking disaster waiting to happen. It is a harsh look at her life and viewers should steer clear if they are looking for light entertainment.

Nothing Fantastic

Depressing content which could have made a very movie story but I found it very difficult to really connect with any of the characters. The lead role is just not a very likeable person, even though (eventually) you do get a glimpse of why she may be the way she is and you do sympathise a little more. Overall felt it was the type of movie that TV channels put on at 2.40 in the morning. There is much better out there
Awful...

This is the worst film I have seen in a long time. It was very depressing and drawn out. I regret wasting my time watching it to the end (we were tempted to turn it off many times!) as it came to a huge anti-climax.
Maggie's Butt

The film was okay, not great but not terrible. Would have been more accurately described as Maggie Gyllenhaal's Butt. How many close ups does one film need of someone's butt?

This was so so so depressing and when it was over I felt drained - hopeless, so in that sense the movie delivered...unlike my usual light-hearted Rom-Coms...I'm sticking with my usual
