2.5 out of 10 Sicko
Iris from Dublin, 03 Jun 2008
Michael Moore on classic form. Great rhetorical propoganda, but made for an American market so its Health Services for Dummies. Emotive but powerful interviews and great case studies to illustrate where the American health care dream went wrong (or right, depending on your share portfolio). However the 'health care is great in Guantanamo' sequence was foul; and the uncritical cheerleading of the NHS was ill-informed. MM: you pay your money, you know what you're going to get!

3.5 out of 10 With a View to Irish Health Care
Kiernan from Kerry, 10 May 2008
Publicly traded companies have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders. In the case of HMOs, this creates an inherent conflict of interest between shareholders and customers, as this film makes sickeningly clear. Sick people need care. Care costs. If it's withheld, money is saved. If you think Mary Harney has some good ideas about private health care, watch this and see what has happened in the richest country in the world when profits come before patient care.

4 out of 10 We need Moore!
Ciaran from Dublin, 30 Mar 2008
Admittedly Moore presents all his documentaries from one side and there will always be a counter to his views, many of which are valid. However I believe his underlying motives to be grand and for that alone I will recommend this. He just illustrates how basic greed and corporate profit-mongering has lead to the current health crisis in the US. he compares that system to 'free' socialist systems around the world to good effect. It's heart is in the right place!

3.5 out of 10 Doctors orders
Rónán from Dublin, 13 Feb 2009
I quite like Michael Moores films even if they are completely one-sided and I'm sure are filtered and distorted. This is quite a damning indictment about the healthcare system in the US. We don't have anything to write home about ours but at lease despite HSE ineptitude you can still see a doctor without costing thousands. The UK utopia of the NHS was to say the least overdone

What's it about....
Sicko is a straight-from-the-heart portrait of the insane, often cruel, and always profit-hungry U.S. health care system, told from the vantage point of everyday people faced with extraordinary and heartbreaking challenges in their quest for basic medical care. Michael Moore asks his fellow Americans "What is wrong with us?" Moore shows that U.S. health care ranks last among developed nations despite costing more per person than any other health system in the world. Moore...
