Spartacus(1960) (1960)

I'm not usually a fan of older movies, I'm more inclined to stick to the catalog's of the 80's. However, this film is excellent. Kirk Douglas is a beast, yer wan is a roide, and Kubrick has always known what he was doing. Yes the intermission bit in the middle (and the start) are some what annoying, but considering the film is nay 3 hours long, the well positioned bathroom break is very considerate, and nostalgic somewhat. Well worth renting alone and for thought its a million times more watchable to the man who's girlfriend wants to sit through Gone With The Wind or whatever other epic birds require watching.
