Great homage to Spielberg

I came to the film without really knowing anything about it and that might have been a small mistake. It took me a quick google to work out that the BD was not damaged and the blue streaks I was seeing on screen was lens flare deliberately put there to give the film a certain look. The film itself is brilliantly acted by the kids especially. The plot is fairly predictable and usual american movie moral prevails. It is however very well written and paced thus making it very entertaining. Myself and the wife came to the conclusion that it was good entertainment and no more. So a 7 out of ten from us.

Not well thought out at all

This film died for me after the first hour. Felt tlike i was watching E.T or stand by me for the first hour and the blonde kid with braces could win a prize for being the most annoying kid at the movies this year OMG!!! honestly if he said it one more time i was gonna throw my shoe at the TV. Kinda got the feeling that the harmony between the producers and the directors for this one just imploded at the halfway point and sadly this flick dies on its feet with no where to fall. Not in the avoid category but not on the shortlist either.

E.t. forolder children

It was a good family movie. not a tear jerker like e.t., but you cold be excused for thinking it was e.t. rehashed and hardened for older kids. our kids enjoyed it, especially the fear, and we enjoyed it. a lot of the characters in the movie we could connect with, as our son has a wide range of good friends. the special effects are good.
What could have been

An alien film from Spielberg where all the alien wants to do is get home, govt want to do tests on him and the only one who understands him is a young boy. Sound familiar? Only difference is the original was good. Some great acting (Elle Fanning is class) but ultimately story is weak

Really, really tries to be a Spielberg type film. Starts well enough but ends up as a chore to watch. Well made and excellent first hour after which it runs out of ideas, could have been a lot, lot better.
