Madness

This is one of the craziest films I have seen in a long time and, even though it is Directed by Tim Burton, I have to say I didn't expect it to be as insane as this. You could argue that it is well made and all that but my honest opinion is that it is pretty much just a whole load of throat slashing madness and little more. There will probably be a lot of people who will agree and even more people who will disagree with me on this.

How could you not know it was a musical?!?

Typical Burton visuals, Helena B as Gothic of make-up as ever... would be very entertaining if not for the poor quality of most of the songs - when the music of the musical is good this is a good film - unfortunately this isn't often. Would have been nice to see the 'angelic' (ie insipid) daughter's throat slashed but you can't have everything!! Depp and Rickman very good, Sacha Baron Cohen is pretty hilarious!

Bad!

I'm usually a huge fan of Johnny Depp.. this wasn't one of his finer moments. My biggest complaint is the music was louder than the people singing and you could hardly make out what they were saying while singing.. I don't know if that was to drown out the people who couldn't really sing that well. I was expecting a dark movie as per Burton's usual contributions this was just ott!
Brilliant!!!

Absolutely brilliant film of this genre! Very well cast, everyone clearly performing within their comfort zones. I think that Tim Burton overdid some of the throat cutting scenes which, in turn, warrants the film an 18 cert and a 9 rating from me but like I say I would absolutely recommend Sweeney Todd as a change to the norm!
Third review

In summary - good atmosphere and filming but awful acting and singing. The worst musical score ever heard in a film, songs written by a two year old it seems. Depp has no singing ability at all and neither do the other stars, or maybe it's just the bad songs. Fairly awful film with more singing than talking.
