The Dude Abides

Like all Cohen brothers films, you'll either love it or find it perplexing. This is one of their best - a mad shaggy dog story filled with great characters and some hilarious scenes. While hilarious, there is also an underlining sadness about some of the characters that makes it quite touching (although a lot of people miss this about their films). But beware - if you rent this you might find yourself buying a copy, watching it over and over, and annoying people by quoting its catchphrases.

Mr. Lebowski is the only man who can call a drink "A Caucasian"
Rarely does a film like this appear to show the youth of today what life will really be like once they graduate.
This film reminds me of Mohammad Ali except for the success and fame. Dude Lebowski suffers knockbacks and endures an endless string of disappointments yet somehow manages to stay positive and fight for what is rightfully his eg his rug and car.
Stay in college and strive to live the life of the dude.

Excellently produced film from the Coen Brothers,
Jeff Bridges shines in his role as a slacker, worlds apart from his usual acting stints.
Quite a lot does develop over the 100mins or so, and one questions the outcome of some of minor characters in this film.. great plot twists to leave you guessing the motive behind the madness
Definitely worth a view.. but not on a lazy day!
Good for a laugh

Not bad, but for me this didn't live up to the hype. No better or worse than the Coens' 'Burn After Reading' for example. Still, Bridges and Goodman do their thing very well, and Julianne Moore is as foxy as ever.
