Eccentric British Fun!
Lyn from Cork, 20 Jan 2010
Great nostalgic and eccentric fun! I think it helps if you lived through this era and actually spent hours under the bedclothes listening to Radio Caroline (like I did) because you couldn't hear rock and roll anywhere else! The current iPod and iTunes generations may not understand how daring this kind of music was back then or how difficult it was just to hear it at all! Eventually several of the DJ's from Radio Caroline went on to start up Radio 1 at the BBC and now we all take it for granted.
A feel good movie from a past generation

I remeber listening to the pirate radio stations and whilst it's easy to get all nostalgic over this movie, it is typical Richard Curtis fare. The characters are fairly predictable but the way they all gel together and bounce off each other os good. Philip Seymour Hoffman is excellent but Bill Nighy quietly steals most of the scenes he's in. The soundtrack is excellent, if you're old enough to remember the songs. A nice, warm, cuddle-up movie for a rainy weekend.
The Boat That Rocked

Set in the 1960s before national radio played pop music all day. It's loosely based on the pirate radio stations of the era who catered for the teens of the time.It brings out the anti establishment feeling of that time without being serious and shows the government as stuffy and hopelessly out of touch with the times. It is funny and the performances of all actors spot on.Good script and great music.A feelgood movie

I was so disappointed with this film. It was one I had wanted to see for a while, and was sorry I hadn't been able to catch it at the cinema - now I'm so glad I didn't. It has a really strong cast and the premise is really good, but it's really boring and just does'nt deliver. There are some funny bits alright, but overall it's a thumbs-down.

From the start, I was annoyed by the 2 second long camera shots. I also hoped it would be about the music and the politics but it was mainly about who was shagging who on the boat. I didnt find it funny either. I switched it off after about an hour, which is something I had not done with a film in a long time
