5 out of 10 Simple plot, great acting, great movie.

This is probably my favourite Kurosawa film and I own quite a few at this stage all well worth the viewing. Don't be mistaken in thinking this is a slice and dice sword movie, this is an old school samurai film which if you haven't watched one before is as close to an old western as Japan gets. Simple storyline in which Toshiro Mifune plays a stern general trying to find a way to get the last line of an overthrown royal family out of enemy controlled territory accompanied by two greedy and cowardly farmers who ended up on the loosing side of the war. The farmers are the main characters in this and supply the comic relief throughout by constantly stabbing eachother and anyone else in the back to save their own skin while also trying to make it rich. Not for everyone and some may find the storyline slow or boring but for me it should be in any movie fans top 100.

This film is the black and white victim of a one George Lucas. even the screen wipes... I prefer this to R2D2, but die hard SW fans might get some gain from this also.
