4 out of 10 A sure thing

20's period piece set in Chicago, tracking the build-up and execution of a fairly elaborate confidence trick involving past-post betting. Plastic Redford does his best to ruin things, but plot, script, production design, music & class acting more than out-weigh him. Best bit? Paul Newman baiting Robert Shaw on the train.

This is such a feel good movie. Its really entertaining. Redford and Newman are class together, just bouncing off each other with good old fashioned sharp dialogue. The story is great and if you've never seen it, you're in for a treat.

What's it about....
The Sting is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed films of all time. Set in the 1930's this intricate comedy caper deals with an ambitious small time crook (Robert Redford) and a veteran con man (Paul Newman) who seeks revenge on the vicious crime lord (Robert Shaw) who murdered one of their gang. How this group of charlatans puts "the sting" on their enemy makes for the greatest double-crosses in movie history, complete with an amazing surprise finish...
