Haunting and expressive movie

This isn't a happy fun time movie, in fact, it's view of the whole of humanity is rather pessimistic given how it deals with the reaction of a group of people in a desolate location after finding they are all under threat by something they don't understand.
Still, it goes balls to the walls by the end, and some grotesque special effect that still are strong today.
You know you want to.

Give yourself a treat and rent this film. From the moment John Carpenter's eery music begins you know you're on to a winner. A Sci-Fi horror that is elevated by a great story, great acting and, despite it's vintage, great special effects. Hide behind the sofa and enjoy.
In the arctic no-one can hear you scream...

Bearing more than a few similarities to Alien, which was released three years before it, The Thing nonetheless holds its own with some spectacular effects (for its time), genuine tension and paranoia and an uneasy ending. Recommended.
A Good Thing

Ah yeah, you know what you're getting from the cover.
Aliens, Kurt Russell and snow. And lot's of them.
It hasn't really dated any.
Ripley wouldn't have done any better.
