4 out of 10 Different World
Frances from Dublin, 11 Oct 2010
Ok maybe this doesn't give you that warm and cosy feeling all the way through but this movie is transportative. The locations are excellent and it truly feels like another world. As a kids movie I think the kinda kids who would like this are the ones who like to dance around that boundary between being scared and excited. And definitely at the end the message is its nice to be home. I would say everyone should give this a chance, I totally loved it.

1 out of 10 You can't go back
Henning from Dublin, 27 Aug 2010
Read the book as a kid and loved it. The movie is a very different beast though. From a small book to a full length movie is always going to be a challenge, but Jonze has created something that barely resembles the original. The monsters are depressed and moody and while they look like in the book everything is much deeper and more meaningful, which here is a bad thing. I guess there are some things you should just not revisit. Disappointed.

1.5 out of 10 Not like the book
Shane from Louth, 30 Jul 2010
I once read the book to my eldest , who is all grown up now. I thought it might bring back memories and introduce my youngest two (6) and (5) to the story.. but, No. its dark leaves you uninspired and ends with the feeling the mother and son are perhaps fine but still isolated.Voices, character cgi etc are flawless, but its no kid story.. 6 year old did not sleep well and was confused. 5 year old just gave up half way.

1 out of 10 A kids Film ????
Mark from Dublin, 14 Feb 2011
Yeah I dont think for one moment this could qualify as a childrens story it was way too dark with the wild things suffering from dark moody depression, mood swings, violence and jealousy what is a kid going to get out of it. my advice stick with the book, this is really at best geared towards adults well over hyped and the trailer is pretty much as good as it gets.

4 out of 10 I loved it.
Aimee from Galway, 30 Sep 2010
I really enjoyed it. I loved the dialogue between the monsters and thought Max Records was really believable. The book didn't feature highly in my childhood, I may have glanced at it once but it didn't leave an impression. This movie did though and it's a while since I've wanted to buy a movie on DVD before I've finished watching it.

King Max rules a wondrous realm of gigantic fuzzy monsters - but being king may not be as carefree as it looks! Filmmaker Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich) directs a magical, visually astonishing film version of Maurice Sendak's celebrated children's classic, starring an amazing cast of screen veterans and featuring young Max Records in a fierce and sensitive...
