2.5 out of 10 Firth is excellent but the material is tired
Ken from Louth, 16 Jul 2010
I was looking forward to this and was ultimately disappointed with the final result. Colin Firth excels as ever as the uptight professor in deep mourning for his partner. This story has been told in many ways before and as such there is not really enough material to hold the interest. The plot and ending can almost be predicted from the very beginning. Firth is well-supported by Julianne Moore amongst others. Overall it is very good to look at but just missing a story that would make it great.

5 out of 10 Amazingly Beautiful
Lyn from Cork, 25 Jun 2010
This is a wonderful film that is set to become an all time classic. Tom Ford's direction and cinematography is totally spellbinding. Colin Firth should have got the Oscar for this not just the nomination, it's the most profound film he's ever been in and he gives a stunning performance. All the actors give wonderfully crisp performances. Having lost a partner myself I could really relate to the story and the style of filming conveys exactly the shock of how that feels.

5 out of 10 Absolutely beautiful
Patricia from Kildare, 24 Jun 2010
I loved this movie. George Falconer is an English professor who has been struggling through life since the death of his long term boyfriend. This movie follows him through one day, at the end of which he has decided he will kill himself. If you like beautifully filmed, excellent acted movies, rent this. As good as Jeff Daniels was in Crazy Heart, I'd have given Colin Firth the Oscar for the scene where he is on the phone. Heartbreaking.

5 out of 10 A beatiful movie
Arlene from Wexford, 20 Aug 2010
My husband and I both really enjoyed this movie. The cast and direction are fabulous. There are many scenes in the movie that stay with you --particularly on the day when Colin Forth's character decides to really live and feel that day. Great detail and direction was given to colors, clothes, scenes and they are all beautiful. Colin Firth did a great job in the main role and all actors were superb.
